What Affordable Medical Weight Loss Looks Like at Medberry

Affordable medical weight loss in San Antonio starts with a provider who looks at your whole health, not just the scale. If diet and exercise haven’t delivered lasting results, the reason often isn’t willpower — it’s biology.

At Medberry Primary Care on Fredericksburg Road near the Medical Center, weight loss is provider-led from day one. You’re not handed a prescription and sent home. We accept most major insurance — including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Aetna — so for many patients, your visits are covered under your existing plan. Your provider builds a complete plan around your health history, your goals, and your coverage.

When appropriate, that plan may include GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide. Not sure if we take your insurance? Call us and we’ll check your coverage before your first visit.

No insurance? You still have an affordable option — the Medberry Network membership gives you provider-led weight loss care for a flat monthly fee.

How Medical Weight Loss Works at Medberry in San Antonio

Step 1 — Book Your First Appointment
Same-day and next-day appointments are available. Call us or book online, and we’ll check your insurance coverage before you come in. New patients are welcome, and no referral is needed.

Step 2 — Meet Your Provider
At your first visit, your provider reviews your health history, current medications, and weight loss goals. They look at the full picture — your blood pressure, blood sugar, and other health factors — and determine whether a GLP-1 medication like semaglutide or tirzepatide fits your plan.

Step 3 — Get Your Custom Plan
You leave your first visit with a provider-designed plan built around your life. That includes your medication plan when appropriate, a custom meal plan, a grocery list, and a personalized exercise guide — not a one-size-fits-all handout.

Step 4 — Follow Up and Adjust
Your provider schedules regular follow-up visits to track your progress and adjust your plan as your body responds. For insured patients, these visits are billed through your plan. For those without insurance, follow-ups are included in the Medberry Network membership at no extra cost.

I had been without a primary care physician for years and figured it was time I found one. I’m so glad I found Medberry. The staff is always so nice, they play good music, and the doctors and PAs are so thorough.

Medical Weight Loss for San Antonio and Bexar County

Bexar County sees higher rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes than the national average, which makes real, provider-supervised weight care especially important here. Medberry serves patients across San Antonio from our clinic on Fredericksburg Road near the South Texas Medical Center — easy to reach from Balcones Heights, Leon Valley, and the surrounding neighborhoods, just off the 410 loop.

Because we’re a primary care clinic and not a med spa, your weight loss plan connects to the rest of your health. Your provider manages your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol under the same roof — so your weight care fits the full picture, not just the number on the scale.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Common Questions About Medical Weight Loss in San Antonio, TX

For most patients, your visits are covered under your existing insurance. We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Aetna commercial plans, plus BCBS Medicare Advantage. Your cost depends on your plan's copay and deductible. If you don't have insurance, the Medberry Network membership is $159 per month and includes unlimited provider visits along with a custom meal and exercise plan. Medication cost is separate and discussed at your first visit. Not sure what you'll pay? Call us and we'll check your coverage before you come in.

It depends on your plan. Some plans cover GLP-1 medications for weight loss, some cover them only for diabetes, and some don't cover them at all. Your provider and our team will check your specific coverage and talk through your options at your first visit, so you know your costs before you start.

Both are GLP-1 medications that help reduce appetite and support weight loss, and both are prescribed and supervised by a provider. They work in slightly different ways and may be a better fit for different patients. Your provider will recommend the option that fits your health history and goals — this isn't a decision you have to make on your own.

No referral needed. You can book directly with us as a new patient, and same-day and next-day appointments are usually available.

Yes. Your care is provided by licensed physician assistants — Adam Casillas, PA-C and Amanda Hernandez, PA-C — and every weight loss plan is developed under the medical direction of Dr. Luke Berry, MD, our founder and Medical Director.

We're a primary care clinic, not a med spa. That means your weight loss plan connects to the rest of your health — your provider manages your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol under the same roof. You see the same provider who knows your history, and most patients use their existing insurance.

Many programs hand you a plan and send you off. Here, a provider looks at the full picture — your health history, your labs, and the factors that may be working against you — and builds a plan around your life, with regular follow-ups to adjust as your body responds. You're not doing it alone.

That's okay. You can start with a first visit to talk with a provider, understand your options, and ask questions before deciding anything. Book online or call us — no pressure, no referral needed.
